Missio - Three Thoughts on Finding Identity (Vevo Originals)

Inspiration can be fleeting and for MISSIO’s Matthew Brue, the more somber the source the better. “From an aesthetic standpoint people know me as darker personality and I don’t want to be a happy person,” he says. When Brue was under the influence of drugs, he saw through a prism that reflected an opaque outlook and mined that fog for songwriting material. As he joined forces with David Butler to form Missio, however, he become sober and worried if he would still be able to draw from his personal experiences while avoiding his past temptations. “Missio’s message isn’t sobriety,” Butler explains. “It’s don’t be alone.” It’s a concept the duo explore on their 2017 album, ‘Loner,’ and here in our “Three Thoughts...On Finding Your Identity,” powered by truth, Ad Council and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Brue admits staying clean is difficult, but offers universal advice to anyone facing a challenge: With support and a reminder that each day presents an opportunity you can find peace among chaos.

You guys are honestly amazing. People can always relate to songs, but how often can they relate to the people that make them? You are unique

You dont have to be this depressed personality for your fans to like you. You do your mature.. ing process and fucking enjoy life. Write about whatever you want to write. Write about your growing process. No matter what you'll always be one of my favorite bands

1 day is a victory. 1 hour is a victory. 1 minute is a victory. Own your mistakes, sure, but own those victories. You can do this. You will be victorious, so long as you don't give up trying. Keep making your music, guys. Become what you will be.

My father had cancer on the stomach, he got surgery to remove a big tumor, he lost weight dangerously and got chemotherapy. He recovered, and guess what? He continues to smoke and drink alcohol... and one of my biggest issues with that is I can't process his addiction, and maybe that's why I can't be economically succesful (like feeling I can't take the next step), I am not trying to blame on him, but honestly, I feel worried and very angry, and I accept I have troubles too, and also this shows how powerful and abominable drugs, alcohol and tobacco could be. But in a sick twist, I thank him because of his mistakes I can see myself on his shoes, and avoid those terrible addictions, which thanks to God, I don't have.

I always love their honesty. We all have dark thoughts and while I haven't resorted to using any substances, I am suicidal. I've tried a few times, but I'm still here. And my issue is I have a very toxic relationship with my parents and like him I feel that if I leave I will be this happy go lucky person and I won't even know who I am anymore. And my art would suffer because of it. But also like he said we need to learn to be more vocal about our issues and I guess what I'm doing is just really suck at talking and I don't really have any friends, but I love your music and it really makes the dark times a little bit better. So thank you so much for that. 🙏💗

As crazy as their lives are, their lyrics are some of the most beautiful, meaningful and real things in the universe in my opinion. They're amazing regardless

You both are beautiful, beautiful people. Your songs have obvious meaning in them, as you sing about your experiences, and there is not a single song of yours that I do not like. God bless you both. 💙
